On the road, Ayr to Townsville

Cooee, about to leave Ayr

After being reunited with Cooee and after a long train trip on the Sunlander, John spent the first night of his resumed journey in Ayr.

John and Cooee are back on the road today, once again heading North, en route to Townsville.

Way to go, John!

No Time to Lose – Back to the Pedals…

Greetings – family, friends, supporters and sympathisers – I have not abandoned my venture !

The delay is considerable, I know. No time to lose to make it across the Top of Australia before the next wet season.

The bike and trailer are with friends in Brisbane where I’ll collect them on Wednesday 10th. On Thursday, I’ll catch the Sunlander train back to Ayr where I interrupted the tour in April. The train trip is 19 hours long. On Friday Cooee, trailer, the cargo bag and I will push off to Townsville. From there the road is straight to Charters Towers… to Mt Isa. More on that along the way.

Please feel free to sponsor me by supporting the Heart Foundation – all tax-deductible.

A thought: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, TODAY is a gift. So – I respect the past, prepare for the future and experience the present.

Unfortunate Circumstances Strike…

Train home...Unfortunately, John has had to end the trek prematurely. In his words:

Image, left: John’s ride home. Not quite a bike, but a great deal faster…

“Yesterday I have reached Ayr, North Queensland about 80 kms South of Townsville. It took me 37 days to ride 2218 kms from Sydney.

Due to my wife’s recent ill health I have been forced to make returning home the No.1 priority.

I have struggled with the decision for the last few days and chose to make the move before turning West from Townsville.

I accept that it needed to be done.

Thank you to all who have been reading my website and supported me along the way.”

Bowen Area

Fourth puncture so farPuncture #4 and a lost iPod. :(

John suffered his fourth puncture yesterday and once again had to effect roadside repairs on the bike.

Today he reports that he has sighted coconuts beside the road (!) and that he is 45km from Ayr.

The bad news is that he lost his iPod somewhere in the Bowen area. If anyone finds it please let us know.
